How the allocation works

How long does it take to get an allocation?

Upon signup, new members will receive a Welcome Offering—a curated selection of wines from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast AVAs, subject to inventory availability. The next opportunity to receive an allocation after the Welcome Offering is during our Appellation Series Release in the spring. Over time and with consistent participation, members gain access to additional wines and offerings throughout the year.

Due to Mother Nature’s variance from vintage to vintage, we cannot provide a specific time frame for our waitlist. Our goal with every release is to share our wines with as many new members as possible while honoring the requests of current members.

How is wine allocated?

Over time, members who consistently order wine gain access to increased quantities and a broader selection of our wines. Since KB bottlings are produced in varying and limited quantities, not all wines can be offered to everyone. However, we strive to provide access to as many selections as possible and tailor allocations to individual preferences.

If a member chooses to forego participation in a release, that member’s guaranteed allocation will be reallocated to those on the waiting list. To continually refine our allocations, future wish opportunities may or may not be provided, ensuring the right wines are paired with the appropriate members.

Can you provide an example of the member journey?

After joining our KB community, new members receive a Welcome Offering—an opportunity to secure a special selection of wines from the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast AVAs while awaiting their Appellation Series Offering in the spring.

With ongoing participation (typically 1-2 years) in the Appellation Series releases, members will unlock access to the Single Vineyard Designate release. Then, with consistent engagement, members will subsequently receive access to the pinnacle of our portfolio—our Estate Series wines. Throughout their journey, members will be introduced to new bottlings within each Release, inventory permitting.

Since 2022, we have offered our Burgundy Series. Access to these limited-production bottlings varies due to quantity and state shipping restrictions.

How can I get an increased allocation?

Over time, members who consistently order wines are given access to larger quantities of those selections. If you’d like more than your initial allocation, you may place a ‘wish request’ for additional wine. We will do our best to grant some or all of your wishes, which then results in an increased allocation of that wine in subsequent offerings, pending vintage size variation.

Even if we are unable to fulfill a wish, our team makes note of the unfulfilled request and uses that information to better curate an allocation for you in future offerings.

When are wines released?

We currently have four KB Releases per year. Please note that not all members are included in every release or have access to all wines offered within a single release. To view our Upcoming Release Schedule, visit https://kostabrowne.com/wine/#upcoming-release-schedule.

What happens with a ‘Wish Request’?

If you choose to wish for more wine than your initial allocation, we will do our best to connect you with additional bottlings. After the release period ends, all unclaimed wine will be reallocated to fulfill wish requests. If we are able to grant some or all of your wishes, we will notify you via email, and any incremental tax and shipping costs will be applied to your original order using the default method of payment on file.

Is my allocation guaranteed?

As a member, if you are offered an allocation, it is guaranteed during the entirety of the release, as to not feel the pressure associated with a “first come” allocation offering.

When is my wine ready to drink?

Our wines can be enjoyed upon release or cellared for 3-8 years, while our Burgundy Series bottlings benefit from aging for 2-10 years. We recommend decanting all wines prior to serving. All of our wines like to age in a dark environment with a consistent temperature between 55 and 60 degrees Fahrenheit and approximately 70% humidity.
