Our Appellation Series wines embody our relentless pursuit of crafting wines that reflect the land that defines them. Nestled along the eastern slopes of the Santa Lucia Mountains, this renowned appellation benefits from the cool marine influence of Monterey Bay’s deep Blue Grand Canyon, a 300-mile submarine canyon that channels ocean breezes through the region. This steady airflow moderates temperatures, extends the growing season, and allows Pinot Noir to develop exceptional purity and definition.
This year marks 20 years of working with the Santa Lucia Highlands, a region that has become an integral part of our winemaking story. Rooted in some of the appellation’s most esteemed sites, this wine brings together multiple vineyards, including Pisoni, Garys’, and Rosella’s—sites featured in our Single Vineyard Series. A vibrant medley of fresh strawberry, cranberry, and cherry unfolds with delicate rose petals and a hint of fresh blueberry. The palate reveals pomegranate and red fruit, carried by refreshing acidity and a well-balanced structure. A savory midpalate adds dimension, leading to an enduring, graceful finish.
Fact of Note: Only 2 clones were used in the Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir blend.
THE SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS IS recognized for producing some of California’s most powerful yet intricate and impeccably balanced Pinot Noirs. Perched upon the East-facing terraces of the Santa Lucia Mountains, the vines are consistently cooled by wind and fog drawn from the depths of Monterey Bay.
Within this region is the city of Salinas, an agricultural town surrounded by fruit and vegetable growers with a comprehensive climate blended of coastal breezes and sun that is ideal for grape-growing. There are plenty of favorite local hangouts to discover if you make the stop. The BBQ is truly magical and worthy of a detour in and of itself.
