Located on the western edge of Rancho Salsipuedes, Radian Vineyard is nestled on the cliffs of Sta. Rita Hills. With extreme winds, diatomaceous earth, and perilous fog, sourcing from this vineyard is no small feat. Vines claw their way through the ancient seabed-like dirt, producing less than a handful of tiny, flavor-packed clusters. This unique Pinot Noir was produced as an exclusive one-time offering in the 2020 vintage.
As one of the coolest and westernmost vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills, Radian yields a fascinating wine with an undercurrent of wildness. As it evolves in the glass, it displays voluminous layers of juicy blackberry, ripe wild strawberry, cherry, clove, and wet slate. High-toned hints of lavender and spice are framed by firm tannins and racy acidity.
Fact of Note: The vineyard was split into 4 separate picks when optimally ripe.
THE STA. RITA HILLS IS located between the towns of Buellton and Lompoc in Santa Barbara County. A critical component for this region’s success is its cool climate and the purely East/West mountain range, whose maritime mouth funnels coastal fog and wind to the vines. This unique orientation, coupled with exceptional Botella clay and limestone soils, produces wines that are as focused and bright as they are alluring.
Before you hit the Sta. Rita Hills, stretch your legs and explore the various hotels, restaurants, parks, and shops of the quaint town of Buellton. Now famous after making its silver screen debut in the movie Sideways, you can relive the film by visiting one of the many charming eateries and must-go spots when in the area.
