Mt. Carmel, Sta. Rita Hills, Chardonnay

Established in 1989, Mt. Carmel Vineyard is perched at 500 feet above the Santa Ynez River, offering breathtaking views and a rich legacy as one of the earliest vineyards in the Sta. Rita Hills appellation. This historic site spans six blocks, meticulously planted with a selection of heritage Chardonnay and Pinot Noir clones. The vines are organically farmed and primarily dry-farmed, a practice that enhances the intensity and character of the fruit.

The vineyard’s unique terroir is defined by a diverse soil composition, including loose, well-drained limestone, botella clay, diatomaceous earth, calcareous deposits, and sandy loam. These soils imbue the Mt. Carmel Chardonnay with a remarkable balance of density and delicacy. This wine exudes finesse, reflecting the vineyard’s storied history and exceptional growing conditions.
