Dark blackberry, plum and cedar with overtones of dark stonefruit.
PALATE
Powerful flavors greet the palate with plum and black cherry. Hints of shitake mushroom, forest floor and fresh cedar give the wine a masculine tone. Ripe cherry, plum and undertones of cassis supply opulent black fruit, while maintaining the unmistakable Pinot Noir character throughout the finish.
Our first vintage of Kanzler Vineyard was in 2002. Since then, the vineyard has proven to be unique and extremely consistent. The Kanzler Vineyard is located in Sebastopol, just south of Bodega Highway, in a very cool, gently sloping site. Consisting of clones 115, 667 and Pommard, this vintage shows the complexity, strength, yet pure Pinot Noir flavors we expect from Kanzler. We recommend cellaring this wine for 2-3 years and enjoying over the next 5-7 years after.
THE SONOMA COAST, WHICH OVERLAPS with the Russian River Valley and stretches all the way to the windswept edge of the Pacific Ocean, has emerged as a hub for cool-climate wines. The vineyards are planted using the finest modern clones and viticultural techniques and have rapidly earned the region acclaim for producing some of the world’s most extraordinary Pinot Noirs.
A deserving pitstop along the Sonoma Coast is the picturesque town of Bodega. Made famous by Hitchcock’s “The Birds,” this little town is also known for incredible food from talented chefs focused on local, seasonal brilliance.
