Bootlegger’s Hill, Russian River Valley, Chardonnay

Once an apple orchard and a hub for moonshine transport during Prohibition, Bootlegger’s Hill Vineyard spans 30 acres at an elevation of 750 feet above sea level, just above the fog line. Surrounded by majestic redwood and fir trees, this unique site boasts six Pinot Noir clones and two blocks of Chardonnay, planted in the region’s hallmark sandy loam Goldridge soils, which are derived from an ancient seabed.

The Chardonnay vines, located on the northern edge of the vineyard, thrive on a gently sloping site bordered by redwoods that collect cool air—creating an ideal environment for this variety. Initial plantings began in 2009, with the majority completed the following year.

Crafted exclusively from the esteemed Hyde clone of Chardonnay, the resulting wine is a masterpiece of balance and elegance. A silky texture carries through the mid-palate to the finish, where the purity of flavors shines. Notes of golden apple, orange zest, and apricot lend a dynamic freshness, creating a wine that mesmerizes with its impeccable harmony and vibrant character.
